What Exactly Is Technical Writing?
![]()
What is Technical Writing?Technical writing is writing designed to enhance or report a product or service. It can be used to teach customers how to use the product—or use it more efficiently, help third-party developers understand how to work with the product, record manufacturing processes, help a marketing department sell a product, and even get feedback from your clientele. Technical writers are trained to design and create many types of documents, from the beginning specification to product development and support documents. Why Do I Need it?Good documentation gives that "finished" look to your product. It can lower training and customer support costs, thus saving you money. Documentation has even affected the outcome of lawsuits! Write Angles' technical writers can be used to add polish to existing documents, rewriting to make them more easily understood by your customers, or to make sure that they meet some externally imposed standard. Everyone has seen poor documentation, but no company intentionally writes poor manuals. They just don't realize the scope of knowledge required to design professional documents. Bad documentation can do more damage than having no documentation at all. Inaccurate or hard to use manuals only frustrate the customer, and can cause the customer to see your product in a less perfect light.
